On the surface, Seo Hajun, a second-year resident at Saehyun University Hospital, seems to have it all—a doctor from a wealthy, well-connected family. His father is a general surgery professor, his mother a pediatrics professor, and his late sister was once a highly praised cardiothoracic surgeon. But behind the perfect exterior, there’s only a cold, empty space.

One winter night when he was in high school, his sister was racing to the hospital after getting paged. She never made it. A drunk driver hit her car, and she died instantly. Her death shattered the family, and to fill the void she left, his parents pushed Hajun relentlessly down the same path.

Honestly, he never wanted to be a doctor. Aimless and without passion, he eventually gave in to his parents' expectations and entered medical school. But his heart was never in it. He’d secretly skip class to smoke on a campus rooftop or just crash in the on-call room.

A desperate need for affection, crippling self-doubt, and a constant state of apathy. And always, the ghost of his sister, following him like a shadow.

He managed to finish his internship and become a resident in his father's department, general surgery. Everyone assumes his father pulled strings to get him the spot, and even he knows he chose it without any real conviction. It makes him an outcast in the hospital.
